Clean Power Estimator provides residential and commercial customers with a personalized estimate of the benefits of a renewable energy system, including energy impact, economics and environmental characteristics.
Exclusively a web-based service, Clean Power Estimator is hosted by Clean Power Research and can be embedded into an existing web page in an iframe or simply linked to from any web page. Optionally, Clean Power Estimator exposes a “Web service” programming interface that allows external application developers to call into the Clean Power Estimator calculation engine.

Clean Power Estimator performs its calculations using a nationwide database of electric rates (PowerTariffs™), a nationwide database of incentives, nationwide irradiance data from NREL’s TMY dataset and a power model derived from Sandia National Laboratories PVFORM model. The act of entering a ZIP code and bill amount (or energy usage) allows Clean Power Estimator to: determine location, lookup a load profile, determine the utility and likely electric rate (and give the user the opportunity to override that rate if necessary), pull irradiance information, locate incentive information and, finally, to calculate the economic, energy and environmental impacts. The user interface is configurable to allow for a customizable around options like financing, default settings and graphical presentation.

The pricing for Clean Power Estimator varies based on the implementation method. However, every implementation has at least two price components: the setup fee (one-time) and the annual subscription (recurring).

• The setup fee covers the cost of basic customization of Clean Power Estimator with a desired layout (including inputs and outputs), default values and color scheme. Setup costs a web services implementation—wherein an entity other than Clean Power Research builds the user interface—are generally lower than those for a full site.
• The subscription price depends on the volume of usage. The yearly price includes a certain number of estimations per month.
• Customizations – generally, items that require custom programming – are quoted as an additional cost to the setup.
